Aakhat is Marathi for 'gulf'. If I'm not wrong, 'akshat' is untouched / something which hasn't been assaulted. Gulfs could have been attributed the quality of akshat-ness based on their geographical security.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9043669662711950238.post-90487688852369228952013-09-19T18:52:14.591-07:002013-09-19T18:52:14.591-07:00Yes, Akshat. Actually, your name is, in its origin...Yes, Akshat. Actually, your name is, in its original Sanskrit form (Akshtah) been re-borrowed into Sanskrit as Hindi Akshat and Bengali/Oriya: Okkhot. If it had been actual Hindi word, normal development of the word would predict Akshatah-->Akkhat-->Aakhat. (Just like Raksha (To protect)-->Rakkha-->Raakh (changed to Rakh (To keep) in standard Hindi). I don't think that the word Aakhat survived in Hindi however. <br />Your name, just like Yash, is somewhere in between Sanskrit and Hindi. It's Sanskrit which has been partly Hindi-fied. When speaking Bengali or Oriya, the Sanskrit Akshatah, instead of being Hindi-fied, is partly Bengali-fied/Oriya-fied as Okkhot.
